The SOCES PTA kicked off the 7th year of their Pick a Reading Partner (PARP) program last month at William O. Schaefer Elementary School and Cottage Lane Elementary School with “The Tale of Despereaux” by Kate DiCamillo!
Something “egg-citing” is happening in Cottage Lane Elementary School teacher Claire Eckert and Katrina Smith’s fourth grade class! On April 1, the baby chick eggs that they had been monitoring for 21 days finally hatched!
Fourth graders at Cottage Lane Elementary School proudly displayed their months of hard work during their productions of “The American Revolution” last month! All fourth grade classes have been working with Stage Left Children’s Theater Artistic Director and Instructor Ayn Lauren since the beginning of the school year as part of the District’s theater enrichment program to practice writing, performing and public speaking skills.
The fifth grade Continental Mathematics League (CML) hosted their final meeting of the school year and “graduated” last Wednesday where they received certificates to celebrate their accomplishments!
“Everyone’s like family” is not only the slogan on the SOMS Italian Club t-shirt, it was also a fitting theme for the annual SOCES/SOMS PTA We The People multicultural celebration on March 15.

Forty-nine SOCSD student-musicians performed in the Rockland County Music Educators Association Intermediate All-County Music Festival at Clarkstown South High School February 28-March 1!
